The maid of honor plays a very important role in weddings. Aside from bearing witness to the marriage certificate signing, you are obliged to do necessary tasks in the wedding planning and preparations.

The maid of honor has to be the bride's right hand. You are going to be as involved with the wedding plans as the bride. You will have to run errands for the bride. You have to contact the wedding vendors in lieu of the bride. You also have to help the bride choose her wedding gown and her wedding accessories. You also have to be on call to allay the bride's wedding jitters.

As the maid of honor, you are in charge of the bridal shower. You are responsible for putting together a bridal shower that the bride will remember and appreciate. You will prepare the food and get the girls together to plan your bridal shower gifts. Of course, you have to decide on the bridal shower theme, send out the invitations, host the affair, and take note of who attended and what gift each guest brought so that the bride can properly thank them afterwards and not neglect to invite anyone who has attended the shower.

On the wedding day, you will be in charge of the bride's bouquet. You will stand beside the best man to receive the guests during the reception. You are also expected to give a speech and you may be asked to host the wedding reception program.

After the wedding, you may be tasked with sending the thank you notes and wedding announcement cards while the bride is on her honeymoon.
